Many of us are mourning the loss of an extraordinary woman and dear friend, Karen Coaldrake. Karen is survived by her husband Peter, and sons, Justin and Tristan. She is also survived and remembered by all of us - her JUSC family.

For those of you who knew Karen, words cannot describe what a truly special person she was. She gave of herself and her talents unselfishly and made the lives of many better through her friendship, laughter, guidance and help. You could always count on Karen for a welcoming smile, good time, and a good laugh too. For those who never met Karen or only knew of her, you may have seen her in passing or read about her in the local news. She was actively involved in so many areas of the Johnston Community including the Johnston School Board and Johnston Soccer Club Board. Her contributions to the JSC and JUSC are endless. Her countless volunteer hours to help make things better for the clubs yielded many e-mails, newsletters and survey information. She was instrumental in developing the Players and Coaches of Character for the Johnston Soccer Club. She worked with a JUSC parent, Doug Fairchild, to paint a mural on the South fields. She cleaned the concession stand on a 100 degree day and laughed about it. She was a constant presence at so many soccer games - not just her own son’s, but her son’s friends, siblings of her son’s friends and teammates, and friend’s children. She never passed up an opportunity to do something good for the kids. Whether it was her tireless work as an advocate for children’s needs through the school board or her support of the soccer program in our community - she simply wanted happiness and well-being for each and every child.
