Who says you can’t play soccer in the snow? Here’s a great way to keep practicing during the winter; you might need an orange ball though!

Happy Holidays!

"Hello and welcome to the special Christmas edition of Rossco’s Rants! I know you’ve all been missing my ranting, so to show my Christmas cheer, I thought I’d rant a little over Christmas to keep you ticking over. Enjoy!" - Ross Moffat

So what’s Rossco ranting about over the holiday season?

First of all, what’s the deal with the snow? Fifteen inches?! You must be having a laugh!

I hope all you soccer players have enjoyed a break from soccer; hopefully some of you are already missing it and are looking forward to playing again! I’ve said this before, but if you’re looking to get better as a soccer player, waiting till March to kick the ball again probably just isn’t going to cut it! “But the snow and the cold!” I hear you cry, well do not fret, JUSC has plenty of nice warm indoor stuff for you to get involved in over the winter.

And what’s the deal with David Beckham’s hair these days? Is it just me or does it look like he’s got a dead skunk on his head? And that’s coming from me, a guy with a mullet!

Saying that, it’s not as bad as Ronaldo’s in the 2002 World Cup, shocking!

And one more thing! The holiday season is an awesome time to watch soccer on TV. The Christmas period of games is seen by players, coaches, managers and fans as a critical time. There are a whole bunch of important games, Christmas time can make or break the season. So, while it is a stressful time for managers and players, it makes for great viewing for us. So make sure to tune in to the soccer on TV over the next few weeks, I can’t wait!  HO HO HO!

Here’s some corkers to look out for:

Date     Game
12/19/2009 Arsenal v. Aston Villa
12/28/2009 Chelsea v. Fulham
12/29/2009 Aston Villa v. Liverpool
1/5/2010 Arsenal v. Bolton Wanderers
1/9/2010 Birmingham v. Manchester United

 What’s happening at JUSC?

We’re all doing our preparations for the Spring season here at JUSC, make sure you’re doing your bit to get prepared too. Remember, winter indoor sessions will start on the week beginning January 4th! We’re looking forward to seeing you all again!

Additionally, Uncle Jeffrey will be putting on some extra skills sessions. Here is the info!
6 sessions

Fridays: January 22 & 29   February 5, 12 & 19 and March 5
Time: 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
Location: Aldersgate Church
Cost: $50 per player

Sessions will be open to all U11-U14 players in the JUSC, JSC, and USC. Activities and player groups will be structured to challenge players of all ability levels.

Each session would involve a warm-up and technical work for 45-60 minutes with the remaining time being used for the players to have an open play.

And, Oz and Matt will be providing Speed and Agility sessions, benefit from their expert knowledge and have a bit of fun along the way!

The Speed, agility, and strength sessions started on Sunday December 13 and continue through March 7 at Skate North in Urbandale. Limited space is still available for players to complete a periodized winter training program, emphasizing soccer specific movement and muscle groups. The clinic will pay attention to running, cutting, and turning techniques, as well as provide the tools for players to self train. For more information contact Ozzie White on 515 724 2764 or email ozziewhite@mchsi.com

I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very happy holiday, hope everyone has a wonderful time!
