Ross Moffat aka Rossco

So what’s Rossco ranting about this week?

The World Cup may be over, but the soccer season is only just beginning, and that can mean only one thing: It’s time for me to start ranting again! Welcome back to all the soccer players and soccer families in our local community.

Everyone is excited to get back out on the soccer field but before you go charging in and running around like a headless chicken there are some things you can do to make the most of your practice sessions. If you are prepared for your sessions then you will performance, learning and development will increase. So here’s a couple of tips from old Rossco to enhance your practice performance.

Yes, we know you all bring a water bottle to practice, but are you hydrated going into the practice? You should be drinking water throughout the day to stay hydrated.

Look after your equipment, a flat ball or wet shoes are a no go! These are the tools you use to do the job. It’s like showing up at school with a pencil with no led in it.

Make an effort to understand the concepts being taught to you by your coach; there is a method to the madness (well, most of the time!).

Don’t worry if you make a mistake, practice is the time to try things and be free in the way you play. Relax and enjoy it.

 What’s happening at JUSC?

This is a crazy time of year for the clubs, there is so much to do before the season kicks off! All the coaches and staff are ready for the season to start and get into a regular routine.

This is going to the busiest season yet with more teams and players than ever before. The World Cup has left people wanting more soccer and there are more and more kids playing the game! This is very exciting!
And, speaking of the World Cup, here are some cool pics of the hugely successful World Cup Extravaganza! Thanks to everyone who joined in, I hope you had as much fun as I did!

The Champions lift the trophy in victory!

Some brilliant memories from the World Cup…

 Coach’s Favorite

This season will feature some favorites from each of our coaches! This will help you to learn more about the soccer background of your coaches and see some great videos in the process.

I get to go first since this is my blog! Here is my favorite player of all time, Davie Cooper. He played for Clydebank FC and Glasgow Rangers who are my teams. He was a genius with the ball at his feet and I spent my childhood down at the park or out on the street trying to hone my skills to be as good as him. Every time he got the ball there was a buzz around the stadium because you knew something brilliant was about to happen.

As a Scotland fan I don’t get to celebrate very often but when we beat the then World Champions, France on their home turf it was this goal that won it. Therefore, this is my favorite goal of all time.

This is how much it meant!

I was lucky enough to attend the 2002/2003 Champions League final and got to see the legendary Zinedine Zidane play live. This is the goal he scored that night, when he celebrated he ran right towards where we were sitting, I’ll never forget it.
