Bettering YOUR Game!
Rossco’s Tip of the Week

We’ve heard what MJ does to prepare himself for games. I know I like to think about my family back home and prepare myself to play in a way that would make them proud. But what works for you? Everybody is different, think about it and figure it out to help you give top performances every weekend!

This classroom session with the u12 girls
will help them to prepare mentally.

 Welcome!

"Hello and welcome to Rossco’s Rants! Here you will find lots of cool stuff to keep you entertained and informed about what is going on at JUSC. This page will be updated every week- so come back and visit soon! You hear me?!" - Ross Moffat

So what’s Rossco ranting about this week?

So, there’s no place for psychology in sport right? Your mental state doesn’t affect your performance on the soccer field, right? NO CHANCE! The psychological aspect of the game is massive, and should NEVER be overlooked. Preparing mentally is just as important as preparing yourself physically, technically and tactically. The quicker you buy into the psychological aspect of soccer, the quicker you improve as a player; it’s as simple as that. As a club, JUSC recognizes the importance of a holistic approach to developing our players and we have already begun to introduce psychology sessions into our curriculum. Well done to those who have already participated!

 What’s happening at JUSC?

Shedzy, Mattie and Oz attended the annual coaches convention in Philadelphia and have come back armed with new and innovative ideas, helping ensure that JUSC remains at the cutting edge when it comes to coaching and developing our players. The importance of the psychological component of soccer was clearly highlighted at the convention and our coaches were able to learn from the crčme de la crčme of soccer psychologists, exciting stuff!

Here is the convention schedule for those who are interested:

In other news, our U16 boys are heading to Las Vegas to represent JUSC! The lads will take part in a college showcase tournament, giving them the chance to play in front of college coaches who are looking for talented prospects for their program. What a fantastic opportunity! Good luck guys!

Speaking of developing the whole player, have a listen to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger discussing how to build a soccer player- very interesting. Notice how he discusses getting outside of your “comfort zone” and pushing to get better every day. This is the kind of mentality a player like Cesc Fabregas has shown; at only 23 years old he is undoubtedly one of the top players in the English Premier League.

Even athletes with unrivalled physical and technical ability recognize the importance of the mental side of their sports. Here’s someone you might have heard of…
