Bettering YOUR Game!
Rossco’s Tip of the Week

If you don’t believe me, maybe you’ll believe these guys!

 Welcome!

"Hello and welcome to Rossco’s Rants! Here you will find lots of cool stuff to keep you entertained and informed about what is going on at JUSC. This page will be updated every week- so come back and visit soon! You hear me?!" - Ross Moffat

Ross Moffat aka Rossco

So what’s Rossco ranting about this week?

THINK about your FIRST TOUCH! Your first touch when you receive the ball doesn’t need to be simply getting the ball under control (unless you’re receiving a bad pass of course!). Can your first touch take you away from pressure? Can your first touch take you in the direction you want to go and allow you to get your head up? Think about it; make a decision BEFORE you receive the ball! With a quality first touch you can buy yourself some precious time with the ball that will allow you to be a more effective soccer player. C’mon peeps, do Rossco a favor and make it look good!
And… there’s no reason you can’t work on it; all you need is a ball and a wall! If your second touch is a slide tackle then you’ve still got a bit of work to do!

 What’s happening at JUSC?

I am proud to say that thirteen JUSC coaches recently gained a qualification in first aid and emergency planning through the highly recognized PREPARE initiative. Our coaches learned from physiotherapy and first aid experts and passed an exam to gain the qualification. Here is what PREPARE is all about:

P — Pre-plan, in case of emergencies;

R — Recognize emergencies;

E — Emergency Plan (pinpoint the steps needed to be taken once an emergency has occurred);

P — Principles of First Aid (learn the basic first aid techniques every coach should know);

A — ABCs (become familiar with airway breathing and circulation — the basic steps of CPR);

R — Return to Play (determine when it is safe for an injured athlete to return to play); and

E — Enjoy (encourage young athletes to get back into the game).

 Check This Out...

Dennis Berkamp never really had much pace or strength, so his first touch was vital, and man oh man did he master it. Have a look at his first touch for these two goals.

You can stop practicing when you can do this!
