Bettering YOUR Game! Rossco’s tip of the Week   Now, there’s some great skills shown by Maradona and Messi in those videos, but sometimes soccer is much simpler than we make it! As legendary Liverpool manager, Bill Shankly, once said, “Football is a simple game made complicated by those who should know better”. Here is a simple inside cut move to get past a defender and score a great goal.

WATCHING SOCCER ON TV! I can’t believe how little of you players actually watch the game on TV. If you don’t see it played by top quality professionals then how do you know what the game should look like? There is even less of an excuse now because good old ESPN has bought the rights to some English Premiership games, so get tuned in! Fox Soccer Channel and Setanta are another two great channels with soccer on ALL THE TIME! I truly believe that it is a great learning tool as a means to making you a better soccer player. Try to emulate the players you see on television in practice and games, how is their style of play different to yours, and how can you improve to play more like the big stars?

Now, I’ve decided to do you a favor and provide TV schedule of games worth checking out each week. Now you’ve REALLY got no excuse!

	What’s happening at JUSC?
Every week, we will use this space to let everyone know what is going on with the players and teams at JUSC.   This week I would like to make you all aware of the good relationships we have been forming with nearby Major League Soccer Clubs. Kansas City Wizards prospects Logan Bieghler, William Whetherspoon and Brandon Fricke have all choosen JUSC u-17s to continue their soccer development until they pick up again with the Wizards this coming spring. It is exciting to have these players join us and we look forward to furthering our relationship with the Kansas City Wizards and Chicago Fire in the future!

This week, Check out Lionel Messi of Barcelona emulate his hero, Diego Maradona, with a goal that looks just like Maradona’s against England in World Cup ’86. Is Messi’s better? What do you think? Messi was recently voted European footballer of the year, and here is why. Notice how quickly he changes direction with the ball and is able to explode past defenders. What an amazing player!
