"Hello and welcome to
Rossco’s Rants! Welcome to the first Rossco’s Rants of the new
season! And I’ll tell you what; it’s good to be back!" -
Ross Moffat
So what's Rossco ranting
about this week?
This Ranting Scotsman
always has something to say!
PASSING! Everybody can do it right? Or can they? Don’t take
your passing technique for granted, think about it and work
at it. Are you connecting with almost all of your 5 and 10
yard passes? You should be, make it so! seasons.
Bettering YOUR Game!
Rossco’s Tip of the Week
Things to think about when working on
passing technique: ■ Where is your plant foot when you strike
the ball? It should be next to the ball, not behind it.
■ Ankle should be locked.
■ Can you pass effectively with
the inside and outside, left and right?
■ Use your first touch to
prepare you for the pass.
■ You have connected with a
pass- what’s next?!

What's happening at JUSC, JSC & USC?
Our full-time coaching staff recently hosted coaches education clinics for our awesome Johnston Soccer Club and Urbandale Soccer Club volunteer coaches. The clinics were extremely well attended and we are delighted that our volunteers show such commitment to providing the best possible soccer experience for the players that they work with. Our volunteer coaches were able to observe the full-time staff conduct practice sessions with players from the age-groups that they coach with the object of keeping them up-to-date on ways to teach the ever changing beautiful game! Thanks to everyone who came out and got involved!
Speaking of passing things on, JUSC Coach, Matt Sahag, has a
message for everyone at the clubs…
The James Arthur Albert foundation (JAAF) extends its thanks
to all who donated their pre-loved soccer equipment to the
children of Belize.
On March 26, 2011, approximately 125 pairs of soccer shoes,
100 soccer balls, 75 jerseys, and other soccer apparel
including goalkeeper gloves, shin guards and socks were
donated.
Thank you for your generosity!
Your donations give the children of Belize access to soccer
resources that they otherwise would not have. The donations
will contribute to a safe and fun learning environment for
children to progress in an activity that they love.
JAAF will use your donations to inspire children through
soccer and to continue to promote the importance of
education through the various projects the foundation
undertakes.
To date, Foundation has conducted soccer clinics for
approximately 650 children, sent 32 children to high school
on scholarship, and raised $10,000.00 to fund a science lab
with state of the art equipment at a night high school for
women.
Most recently, the foundation committed
$12,034.00 to fund completion of the St. Benedict grade school. In a
letter dated March 29, 2011, Jim Albert confirmed funding by writing to
the principal:
“The first $3,000 U.S.
of our Foundation's commitment to pay the total cost of $12,034 U.S.
($24,071.90 BELIZE) for the classroom extension of St. Benedict School
has been wired, and should be in your account now.
We send this with our admiration for the dedication and hard
work of you and your teachers, and with our respect for your students'
commitment to learning, and in solidarity with their parents and the
townspeople of Punta Gorda.”
April 16, 2011 marks JAAF’s next important
event. The first annual Belize Dance Marathon will be held at Drake
University in Des Moines, Iowa in efforts to continue to fund ongoing
projects. Approximately 600 dancers are already signed up!

This week’s soccer videos are focused on passing, simple
passing to keep the ball. Watch how Argentina connects with
25 passes before finding an opening and scoring a great
goal.
When you think of a passing game, one of the teams that come
to mind is Arsenal. Check out how they use quick accurate
passing to unlock defenses.
But undoubtedly- the pass masters are Barcelona. Feast your
