Academy 9U/10U Soccer (Born in 2010 - 2011)
The Academy is a state-initiated program by Iowa Soccer Association which serves as a next-level program alternative to recreational soccer for players in the 9U/10U age groups. Under guidelines established by the Iowa Soccer Association and participating clubs, the Johnston Urbandale Soccer Club organizes players into academy teams and manages the Academy program during the fall and spring outdoor soccer seasons.
The purpose behind the academy program is to allow 9U/10U soccer players to play against others with a similar ability so they can experience the most success, be faced with reasonable challenges, and most importantly, have the most fun playing soccer! Players who are 8-12 years old are considered to be within the "golden years" for learning proper technical habits including: dribbling, passing, receiving, shooting, moving off the ball, goalkeeping techniques, etc... which are required to play the game at the highest level later in their soccer lives. The Academy places players under experienced and knowledgeable coaches who have played the game and are able to provide the tools for players to build a strong technical foundation in the game.
Player Development: Building a Foundation
The Academy Program will give 9U/10U players a solid foundation through the emphasis on technical points dealing with body mechanics, fundamental footwork repetition, and basic decision-making. The purpose of our developmental model will be to give players the tools and tricks to build a repertoire of skills and ideas to play the game effectively and creatively in their teenage years. By building this foundation we hope to give players more confidence and success implementing the complex skills and team-play which are emphasized within the JUSC Select Program beginning at 11U and beyond!
Parent - Coaches Info
Parent volunteer coaches are a big part of the 9U/10U academy and required to obtain certification in order to be on the sidelines. This will help to prepare parent coaches for managing games, interacting with players, and provide an in-depth look at the bigger picture of player development. More info to come.
JUSC is continuing to offer an optional, supplemental, fee-based program for 7U and 8U boys and girls. At this age, the initial FUNdamental stage of development is very important to a player's overall growth and development as an athlete and soccer player. Using a movement and games approach to learning, the Pre-Academy seeks to develop the physical capabilities of each player, the ABC's of athleticism, Agility, Balance, Coordination and Speed all while focusing on the ball and enhancing the player's relationship with it. Players will experience the ball, develop a better feel for it, use different surfaces and attempt to express themselves through the game and the ball. This is a great way to better transition players and coaches for the 9U JUSC Rec, Academy and beyond.
