Sporting Iowa Hall of Fame Dinner + Benefit
Come and join us for our 4th annual Sporting Iowa Hall-of-Fame Dinner + Benefit.
March 7th, 2020. Spots are limited, don't miss out on this evening of celebration!
Join us for an evening of community, friendship, & silent auction as we celebrate our new Hall of Fame Inductees and support a cause that is close to our hearts. This night is one of remembrance for a special woman, mother, & friend who's biggest advocacy was that every child deserves a chance to play soccer, Karen Coaldrake. The mission of the KCFAF is to allow every child the opportunity to play regardless of financial means. KCFAF has raised well over $100,000 for youth soccer players to participate in soccer and the need continues to grow within our communities and surrounding areas. In her memory, we honor those who have impacted the community through soccer and raise funds to support children in financial need to enjoy the wonderful game of soccer.
We would love for you to join us for a night of drinks, dinner, dessert, a silent auction, and recognizing our 2020 Hall Of Fame class.
Whitney Lewis (Sharpe)
100% of the proceeds go directly to the Karen Coaldrake Fund. With your help, we can provide support so that more children will have the opportunity to play soccer. Learn more here.
Grassroots Referee Course on February 29 This is a great opportunity for players and parents or any other youth or adults to learn the game from another perspective and earn some extra cash. Participants must be at least 13 years old when they register for the course. The United States Soccer Federation (USSF) has made several changes very recently so for those who had or knew other information, this will be different.
What: Grassroots Referee Course - In-person portion When: Saturday, February 29th ~ 8:30AM – 4:30PM. Cost: $60 See breakout below. Where: Johnston Middle School Cafeteria located at 6501 NW 62 nd Ave, Johnston, Iowa 50131 There are a limited number of seats so register early.
This is a perfect time for 13 year older players to become involved with the club by refereeing. It is also a perfect time for parents to become involved and grow with the sport as their child grows with the sport. The Club can always use adult referees.
Now that you have the basics, let’s get down to more details. The way the new course works is that the interested participant – must be at least 13 years old to register - will complete the Grassroots Referee Course online which will last 4+ hours, then complete the assignments – Safe Sport for those who are 18 years of age or older (90 minutes); Safe and & Healthy Playing Environment (30 minutes); complete the Quiz at your own speed; all of which will cost $20. This course does not register the participant with USSF. Upon completion of the 4+ hour course, the participant will then register for an in-person all-day session for the cost of $40. When the in-person session is completed, the participant will be registered with USSF. Payment will need to be made with a credit card for both the online course and the in-person course. So there are two parts to becoming a Grassroots Referee.
Walk-in participants will no longer be allowed at the in-person portion of the course. The reason is that the course material online must be registered for and completed prior to attending any in-person session. Register for the Grassroots Referee Course at www.iowasoccer.org/become_a_referee -click on Calendar of events; click on February 29 Johnston/Urbandale and follow the directions. The directions for both the online course and in-person course are on the site.
If the above in-person date will not work for you, check the calendar for another date that will work. You can register for a Grassroots in-person course wherever you would like and referee wherever you want. Please contact Bonnie Larson with any questions – e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org or phone: 515- 255-6559. Hope to see you at the in-person clinic.
